I have been saved for six years and ten months. I got saved almost seven years ago in 2010 on Palm Sunday. What a way to receive Jesus Christ right? The day of Jesus triumphant entry into Jerusalem before the crucifixion. It’s was a pivotal moment in my life, I didn’t plan it. It was God’s timing. He was ready for me. He called and I answered the call. It was the beginning of living for Christ. Living for Christ is the most unselfish thing you can do for Him. You can NEVER repay Him for what He has done for you. But the least YOU can do is live for Him. And how do you live for Christ?
By denying yourself daily. Don’t hold on to your life because it does not belong to you. The breath you breathe in and out belongs to God. At any moment, He can choose to take it back.
“For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.“ Matthew 16: 25
If you are reading this and you have yet to accept Christ. Give your life to God (the creator) and enjoy eternity with Him. Watch Him reveal to you who you are in Christ Jesus. You will find your purpose in Christ. Anything outside of Christ is meaningless.
So how do you deny yourself? Simple!….. John 3:30 “He must increase, but I must decrease. ” In other words for you to be vessels of honor, you can’t be full of yourself, the world, traditions or societal norms. You have to die daily by denying the desires of your flesh. You can’t feed your flesh anything; you have to starve it to subdue it. Don’t feed it gossip, hatred, lust, fornication, anger, jealousy, envy, idolatry, etc. Why?
“For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.” Galatians 5:17.
God can’t increase in you if these things are dominant in your life. You have to starve them daily. The enemy will bring before you opportunities to lie, steal, lust and so forth. But you must DENY them. You must curve the appetite of your flesh.
Now you’re probably wondering how does one curve their fleshly desires? Can I share a story with you? I promise there is a moral to this story. I have been trying to lose weight for the last year. I’ve gained a little weight, I’ve never been this size before. So it’s new for me. When I talk about my weight, people, look at me like I’m crazy. Like OKAY, “where is the weight you’re trying to lose?” But it’s my personal desire; I want to work out consistently and eat healthier.
I have a gym membership I’ve been paying for since last summer. I started praying and ask God for help. He said to take everything to Him in prayer. Well, here it is. Since then, the Lord has been reminding me about it when I’m eating the wrong food. Now I feel conviction, when I’m at work craving a Chocolate Chip cookie or Cheese Danish from Starbucks after lunch. Or when I don’t bring lunch, and I buy fast food. This tells me we have control over our desires. Living for Christ is not a walk you can do on your own.
The Lord gives wisdom, and He desires to help me because I took it to Him in prayer. He said to curve your appetite. Replace it with something healthy. Instead of cookies, I can substitute it for some grapes, an apple or any fruit. The point I’m trying to make, you deny yourself by curving the desires of your flesh. Instead of hatred choose to love the person instead. Instead of anger pray it out, rebuke it. Instead of fear start denouncing and replace it with what God said about you. “He did not give you a spirit of fear, but He gave you power, love, and a sound mind.” Of course, it will not be easy, but nothing in life is. Pray for a spirit of determination and persistence to get you through it.Just because you are comfortable doing something means you have a right to do it.Click To Tweet
How bad do you desire to decrease and allow God to increase in your life? The desire to see God increase in your life should always outweigh your fleshly cravings. Cravings can be curved, and God has used my poor choices as proof we choose not to curve them. It so easy to get comfortable with feeding your flesh, and you starve His spirit. Just because you are comfortable doing something means you have a right to do it and not because you’re comfortable in an environment you belong there.
You have to feed the spirit of God living inside of you daily. He can’t use you as a vessel if you are starving Him. God wants to use you; He desires to reveal you to the world. He has a great plan and purpose for your life. Allow Him to activate the power inside you. But He can’t do it if His spirit is weak inside of you. He can’t do a mighty work in you if your heart belongs to the world. Remember God is a spirit being and He searches the heart of man to house His spirit. A house where He can be glorified. A house where He can dwell and do wonders in your life. You can be a miraculous agent for the Lord to draw others to Him. I want you to understand God desires to bless YOU. He plans to do great things in and through you so others may know His name. People should look at your life and want to know about the God you serve! But you must first decrease for Him to do these things. You can’t experience all of God’s glory or what He has for you until you decrease.
